Join your favorite International Survival Instructors for a North Shore Oahu adventure unlike any other. It’s the perfect mix of expert island jungle survival training, and epic beachside adventures in paradise:
For: A survival adventure for hikers, backpackers, families, world travelers, outdoor professionals, and anyone wanting to train with the world’s best island survival instructors & adventure guides!
When: 4 Epic Days. Tuesday April 16th 10am – Friday April 19th 12pm.
Students may arrive and camp starting the evening prior. (and feel free to stay longer!)

Island Survival Skills: Going with the flow of both needs, interest, & time, students will be able to learn jungle and island survival skills like:
- Primitive Island & Jungle Survival Shelters
- Traditional island friction fire making
- Wild Edibles Gathering and Traditional Island Fire & Pit (Imu) Cooking
- Traditional Atlatl (hunting dart) Making & Wild Boar Hunting Methodology
- Traditional island animal trap techniques
- Spear fishing techniques
- Traditional Island Survival Tools & Container Making
- Survival Mindset & Nature Awareness Training
Island Adventures Opportunities:
Mixed-in with the hard skills, your island adventure will also include plenty of time for choosing your own speed of additional island adventure activities – with friends from the group, or solo. While these adventure options are self-led and not required, there is so much to do with your freetime, that getting bored is not an option!
- Surfing, (or learning how to!) on some of Hawaii’s most epic beaches.
- Swimming, snorkeling & spear fishing
- Island flow running with local endurance athlete legend Tommy “Rivs” Puzey.

- Cultural exploration adventures at the nearby Polynesian Cultural Center.
Your Instructors:
Kap Te’o-Tafiti: Kap is known as one of the most experienced island survival instructors on O’ahu. Truly a local legend, as Senior Cultural Ambassador for the Polynesian Cultural Center, and movie consultant to International Stars like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson & Jason Mamoa, Kap is one of the most recognizable faces in Hawaii. Kap is currently Head Instructor at Hawaii Survival School & in charge of all traditional skills programming, teaching people to not only survive, but to thrive, island style!
Matt Graham: Internationally recognized for his Island & Jungle exploits on shows like Discovery’s “Dual Survival” & “Dude You’re Screwed”, Matt is excited to bring his global survival expertise back to Hawaii for this Epic adventure that perfectly blends together things he truly loves – Teaching survival skills, going on fun trails runs, and surfing!
Dan Baird: One of the most experienced island survival experts in the world, Dan has taught & guided island survival expeditions, and produced survival TV shows on islands and jungles across the world, including in Fiji, Colombia, Belize, Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico, Tanzania, Chile, & Brazil. Dan first moved to O’ahu 20 years ago for University, and is currently a Lead Instructor with Hawaii Survival School. Dan’s favorite island skills to teach are traditional friction fire & traditional island cooking.
What to bring: Students really won’t need more than a swimsuit and a few camping basics! A fully packing list will be provided after registration. Please email us if you have questions.
Meals: Meals will be a combination of campfire cooking options provided by instructors, and eating at favorite local spots with ono grinds (local Hawaiian slang for really good food! 🙂 when traveling around the island to surf spots and beach hangouts, etc. A good budget for personal pocket money for restaurants and local supermarket runs, is likely around $200 to stay on the safe side (you can definitely eat cheaper if you choose to).

Transportation:
The closest airport in HNL (Honolulu International), about 40 miles from our course location.
Students can either rent a personal vehicle, utilize a ride-sharing service, or we can help arrange private transport to the North Shore for around $100 each way (seating up to 4) per trip.
Camp:
Local options for camping exist close to basecamp location. Students who plan to camp should plan to bring a tent, with rain cover, a ground pad, a light sleeping bag, and a light sheet. Temps tend to stay pretty warm. Alternatively, students may also bring a hammock and rain cover instead of Tent, or opt to book local accommodations close by in surrounding communities.
